PPC Specialty Metals was founded by Frank E. Poindexter, Sr. in June of 1987.

Frank began his career in the metals industry in 1967 as a surface grinder operator with a Greensboro, North Carolina tool steel firm. During this time, Frank successfully achieved certification in Elements of Metallurgy from the Metals Engineering Institute.

Frank was promoted to every aspect of the tool steel business and was very successful in sales engineering before elevating into management. Having directly worked with tool engineers, machinists, heat treaters and metallurgists for over 20 years, Frank was well groomed for the founding of his own company, PPC Specialty Metals, Inc. Since that time, many achievements have been accomplished. The firm moved into their newly expanded facility in June of 1995. More modern sawing equipment was added along with larger inventories in tool steel plate and bar. The firm now produces almost all of their bar from plate inventories and does production sawing for outside companies. With the addition of several new grades and products they are now serving consumer markets as well as automotive, textile aerospace and energy markets.

The firm remains a privately held family corporation. Frank Poindexter, Jr. (Eddie) has been with the firm since its beginning and now holds the position of Vice President as well as working in sales on a day to day basis.  Frank's wife, Pam, supervises all accounting functions for the firm.
